Conservatories are traditionally rooms that don’t get a lot of year-round use. The temperature inside a conservatory can make using it prohibitive, as there is little in the way of temperature regulation in a traditional conservatory. Even in summer when you want to enjoy all the lovely sun, it can simply be too warm to sit comfortably inside your conservatory and enjoy it.
Much of the uncomfortable heat will be coming in through the roof, where the sun is shining directly onto the glass. Modern conservatories will now often have tiled roofs instead, preventing this problem from occurring. The room will be much more comfortable in summer and it will be warmer in winter as well, because tiles have better insulating properties than glass. Roof tiles can go a long way to improving the energy efficiency of a conservatory or glass extension, and they can make it a generally more pleasant space for you to spend time in. It’s the kind of home improvement that will make you wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
