Most people don’t actually realise this, but gutters are one of the most important features of a home. This is because the function they perform; transferring water away from the building, is essential for maintaining the building envelope. Water can cause extensive damage to a home through erosion, and gutters can help to prevent the majority of this.
If you’re gutters overrun with water because they are blocked by debris or whatever, that water will spill down onto the ground and then splash back onto your home, which will erode the wall affected.
When trying to maintain your gutters, there is more to look at than simply removing any dirt, grime and leaves which may have built up since the last time you cleaned your gutters. You also need to check to make sure that they are still securely connected to the building and there is no deterioration, as if one section breaks off then, firstly it is potentially dangerous to people, and secondly you’re going to have an ineffective gutter too.
